About

Alpha Lab exists to make living landscapes legible: to measure them, model them, and say clearly how far the models can be trusted. We work where landscape architecture, ecology, and computer science overlap, and we borrow our standards of evidence from physics.

Alpha Lab is an independent, non-profit research group formed by members and alumni of Seoul National University. It is not an official institute of the university. The group is run by its members and led by its Principal Investigator, Suchan An, who studied Landscape Architecture and Computer Science and Engineering at the university.

We keep the group small on purpose. Every program on this site is tied to a record that anyone can verify, and every claim we make about it is one we can defend.

Quantities are measured before they are modeled. Models are written down together with their assumptions. Results are published as notes on this site, in Korean and English, with the underlying patent records linked so that readers can check them rather than take our word.
